Livestock

At Smith Family Farms, we mainly raise British White cattle and Katahdin sheep. 

The British White is a hornless British cattle breed, with white hair, used mainly for beef. They do well in Louisiana because they have a high tolerance to heat, sunlight and humidity, and good resistance to parasites. Their meat has excellent marbling comparable to that of Angus.  

The Katahdin is a breed of domestic sheep developed in Maine and named after Mount Katahdin - the state’s highest peak. They are known as hair sheep and don't have to be sheared because they shed their winter coat. 

Some of the other animals that you'll find at our farm are, pigs, goats, donkeys, chickens, turkeys, ducks, and cats.
